課程概述 |
We will study Kant’s conception of free will and his solution of the freedom-determinism problem through his conception of appearance and things in themselves. In the course we will rely on the first and the second Critique. Background knowledge in Kant or otherwise in philosophy as relevant is required. We will read parts from the Critiques, but mainly focus on secondary literature.
The Problem is how to understand our notion of free will in a word that is deterministic. How are we different from animals and mechanisms?

Better understanding the problem of determinism and free will, in particular against the background of Kant’s transcendental idealism and his distinction between appearance and things in themselves. How can we make sense of our idea of free choice and our idea or responsibility in a deterministic world? |
